Mixed Media Artist

Oscar Osumo began his practice in 2015 primarily working on commissioned portraits in graphite, charcoal, and watercolours. He is trained as a quantity surveyor but pivoted to pursue a career in the visual arts instead.

In 2018, he shifted his focus away from portraiture, choosing to work on personal projects using photography and other mixed media techniques to draw connections between people and the built environment with particular attention to urban life. Oscar’s work also explores themes such as nostalgia and identity.

Presently, Oscar is also pursuing a career in graphic design. This has influenced his practice, leading him to incorporate digital media in his work.

Oscar has participated in several exhibitions, which include:

  • Nairobi County Visual Arts Exhibition (Manjano), GoDown Arts Centre (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021)

  • The Affordable Art Show, The Nairobi National Museum (2018, 2021, 2022, 2023)

  • Antifragile, Group Exhibition, Circle Art Gallery, Nairobi (2023)
