A Walk Down Memory Lane
This is a collection of mixed media works made using images taken in my hometown of Kisumu. These photos were taken between 2014 and 2015 during the long holidays while pursuing my undergraduate studies. I spent these long holidays, each spanning four months, in Kisumu with my parents. It was only until COVID-19 struck in 2020, that I sought to make work with these images. The restrictions on movement between 2020 and 2021, which were part of the control measures against the spread of the virus, deprived me of the chance to go out and take new photographs. As such, I resorted to combing through my old hard drive, curating and reminiscing. These images were the result of this process. Considering the darkness that had engulfed the world at the time, these images provided me with an escape, wrapping me in the warmth of nostalgia. These images give a glimpse of what Dala (Luo for 'Home') means to me.
